Wow! What a week! Even though I am tapering down for the remainder of training, this week was very full. Due to extreme heat (most days over 100 degrees), I have had to walk before dawn twice this week. While I hate losing sleep, the solitude of the early morning dawn is an amazing feeling. I really enjoy getting out there while it is still cool and very little traffic. I even had the opportunity to see an amazing California sunrise this week.
Training was also cut short by an illness with my son. I hate when my little ones are sick but this one was serious enough to land him in the hospital. He only stayed one night but man was that enough. We worked hard to get him well enough to get home for his sister’s birthday on Sunday. This was a whirlwind week that I am still trying to recover from.
I received the walk weekend route info for San Francisco. Since I signed up in January, the route was listed as going through the city, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and then north toward Marin. At the last minute, the Avon folks changed this route to no longer go north but to remain in the city. I am so disappointed in this change. I didn’t sign up to walk the entire time in the city. I wanted to see the coastline and parts of California I have never seen before.
Since it is only a couple of weeks from the walk, there is no way to back out now. I won’t be walking for this organization again after this. I feel deceived by the Avon people. I will be looking for other organizations to offer my time and fundraising to after this. Very sad.
