DIY baby foodMaking your own baby food is simple and economical. Using fresh produce, grains, and lean meats can make delicious and nutritious baby foods for your baby and save money on prepackaged baby food. Plus, DIY baby food allows your baby the opportunity to eat the same food as the rest of the family.

Root vegetables and soft fruits are the best first foods for babies. Vegetables like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, and carrots are appetizing to babies because they are sweet. Over ripe bananas, avocados, and pears are also a hit with babies because they are soft and sweet and can be puréed without the need of steaming first.

Getting Started
  1. Pick the fruit or vegetables you want to use. Organic is best.
  2. Cut fruit and/vegetables into small chunks.
  3. Steam 12-15 mins or until soft.
  4. Purée in blender or food processor
  5. Freeze in ice-cube trays and only use what you need.

**Apples and pears are great first fruits as they are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.
