Well I did it…again! I have finally decided to challenge myself once again. I’ve decided for the rest of 2023, I’m going to do something challenging, outside the box, and totally awesome! I have decided that I am walking 60 MILES in 3 days in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® in San Diego to help breast cancer research, screenings, and survivors. While I have not walked in the shoes of a breast cancer patient, I have many friends and family that have. This is for ALL OF THEM!
What is The Susan G. Komen 3-Day®?
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® is a remarkable event that brings together thousands of participants in support of breast cancer research and assistance. It involves a three-day, 60-mile walk through various cities and locations in the United States. This event serves as a tribute to breast cancer survivors, a remembrance of those who have lost their lives to the disease, and a demonstration of solidarity in the quest for a cure.
The history of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® can be traced back to 2003 when the first event took place in San Francisco. Since then, it has expanded to different cities across the country. Over time, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® has become an emblem of hope, resilience, and unity in the battle against breast cancer.
How Do Participants Prepare?
The event requires participants, known as “walkers,” to embark on a physically demanding journey. While the specifics of preparation may vary, participants are encouraged to engage in physical training, gather necessary gear and equipment, and make logistical arrangements. It is essential to build endurance and stamina through training, ensuring that walkers can meet the challenge of walking 60 miles over the course of three days. Support from friends, family, and fellow participants can provide motivation and companionship during the event.
Fundraising is also a significant aspect of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day®. Each participant is required to raise a designated amount of funds, which contribute to breast cancer research and support initiatives. Walkers are encouraged to create fundraising plans, set goals, and reach out to their networks for donations. Online platforms and personal storytelling can be effective tools in inspiring others to contribute to the cause.
The Event
During the event itself, participants should prioritize self-care. Staying hydrated, using sunscreen for protection, and practicing blister prevention techniques are essential for maintaining physical well-being. Rest and recovery are important for walkers to listen to their bodies and avoid overexertion.
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day ® is not only a physical challenge but also an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer. By participating in this event, walkers demonstrate their commitment to the cause and contribute to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support programs.
How You Can Help
This year I have committed to walk 60 miles at the Susan G. Komen 3-Day® in San Diego to raise money for the fight to end breast cancer. I am walking to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support programs and for all women who have been affected by breast cancer. Will you please help me meet my goal of $2300 by making a donation of $60 today? Please donate HERE! Thank you for your support!
