Summer is almost here and I feel that I need a new challenge, how about you? The plank is an amazing exercise to strengthen the core. It requires very little room, no equipment, machines or special apparel. But really, all you need is a little motivation. The plank is a great exercise to strengthen your core and burns up to 100 calories in 5 minutes. So are you ready for the May 2014 Plank Challenge?
Plank Challenge Rules
- The challenge starts on Thursday May 1, 2014.
- On day 30 (the final day), complete 5 minutes or more. Really challenge yourself here.
- Keep performing your regular workout plan with just a few minutes set aside to complete your daily challenge.
- If you find the regular plank too easy, then chose a variation below.
Plank Variations
- Feet on chair/bench plank: Place both feet on a chair/bench. Your body should form a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles.
- Exercise ball planks: Place either your toes on a stability ball with hands on the ground.Your body should form a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles.
Tips
- Use a stopwatch or a countdown timer to time yourself.
- Listen to music or watch TV to help you get through the time.

I attempted 1 minute the other day and failed miserably. I made it 18 seconds. I need a lot of work to get to 5 minutes. We will get there together :)
