When I was approached to review Seventh Generation Free and Clear Baby Diapers and diaper wipes, I had a healthy dose of skepticism. Years ago, we began like many parents wanting the best for their kids, and reaching for brand names without hesitation. But whether it was an odd “chemical” smell or a moist feeling through the outer layer of the diaper, name brand diapers had failed us. They stunk (no pun intended).

Ultimately, we had settled on using Target Up & Up diapers and wipes, which we found to be economically and environmentally superior to the majority of name brand diapers. Having 2 children under 2 year’s old means we go through a lot of diapers and wipes. While we were for the most part pleased with our diapers, we recently started having issues with leaks, blowouts, and diaper rashes. I knew that it was time to venture outside of our comfort zone and try something new. Enter Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers and Wipes.

Eco-Friendliness

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers pledge to be free of inks, latex, fragrances, and petroleum-based lotions that can cause irritation, rashes, or chemical burns to baby’s sensitive skin.

These diapers are also the first FSC® Certified diaper manufactured in the United States. This means they are working to encourage healthy forest growth; prevent natural forest cover loss, and prohibit hazardous chemical use in their materials. They also use less water, energy, and fewer trees to construct these diapers versus the leading competitors.

But we noticed something less obvious and just as appealing: fewer rashes and not a single diaper explosion. We were never so eager to be environmentally conscious!

Sizing

My 10-month old recently moved up in diaper size, so I ordered a package of Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers in a size 4, making sure to check the sizing chart.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Seventh Generation size 4 diapers fit on a slightly larger side—allowing for plenty of room for moving and grooving. The soft, cloth like comfort of this diaper allows for a snug and flexible fitting waist and legs that fit very well without leaving red marks.

Unlike some brands, Seventh Generation was built to handle the squirmer who can stretch the waistbands without ripping them.

Absorbency

These diapers were also more absorbent than other brands we had used in the past. Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers utilize a sustainable pulp in their unbleached absorbent core for superior protection. Those who have used disposable diapers in the past will definitely notice a difference. There were no overnight leaks or blowouts noted while using these diapers. In fact, the first time we changed her, we could not even smell that she had pooped. It is almost as though the diaper “absorbed” the smell.

Wipes

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Wipes were surprisingly better than any wipes that we had ever used over the years. Most wipes have not been kind to the sensitive behinds of our little ones, and until now, Target Up & Up provided the best alternative because of its soft and moisture laden texture. Seventh Generation retained the soft and moist feel, but was noticeably thicker and less soggy. We felt like we could clean up more with less, and that was important because the package was 64-count compared to a typical 100-count for the Target Up & Up.

Price

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Baby Diapers 135-count retails on Amazon.com for $47.99 or $0.36 per diaper. These diapers are nearly twice as expensive as the diapers I buy in the store which retails for $28.99 for a 156 Count or $0.19 per diaper.

Final Outcome

Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers are a good option for cloth diaper families who want a convenient alternative for outings or for families that are looking for a chemical-free, eco-friendly diaper. They aren’t cheap, but they don’t disappoint. We absolutely loved these diapers and would use them again in the future. I recommend them for occasional and daily use.
