Wow! It is amazing that my training is almost completed. When I first signed up for the Avon 39, I had a difficult time actually believing that I would get this far. But here I am, just a few days away from walk 39.3 miles in 2 days in San Francisco, CA.
Training this week has really tapered down. I am having a hard time dealing with the lower miles. Although my body is really in need of a respite. Alas I found other ways of getting activity in. From extensive yardwork to spring/summer deep cleaning, I have really stayed busy and active even if my actual miles have decreased.
This week, I also had a birthday. Woohoo! I spent the day with my little family up in the Sierra Nevada mountains at the Donner Pass Summit Tunnels. We journeyed up that way at the end of May and the tunnels were still blocked by snow! No kidding. So, when we went up this week we were a little worried that there might still be snow up there. There is a little snow but nothing like a few short weeks ago.
I carried the baby on my back and the little kids hiked in their hiking boots and flashlights in tow. It was a really great, dark hike. The graffiti in those tunnels is so interesting to me. But the history of the tunnels (found HERE) is the intriguing and awe-inspiring.
What is even more interesting is that this part of the Sierras has a few Pacific Coast Trail (PCT) trailheads. I got the opportunity to hike a little on the PCT. I will be back to hike again soon but for now, I can check that off my bucket list.
40,000 people will die from breast cancer this year. It’s unacceptable and I am determined to crush this disease and earn my 39. Please donate and join me in this fight. Use THIS LINK to donate.
