Valentine’s Day will be upon us before you know it. If you are like me, you like to celebrate this Hallmark Holiday by having a nice little steak meal with your sweetie. If you are also like me, planning a night out (especially if you have children) takes more work and money than planning your wedding.
Now you can have a steakhouse quality meal for the fraction of the cost of an actual meal AT the steakhouse, at home. All you have to do is a little pre-planning to make this meal an absolute success. So this year, why not stay in and have a steakhouse quality meal at home instead of fighting the crowds?
I know what you are thinking. You are thinking “my homemade steaks taste nothing like a steakhouse steak.” Neither did mine until I learned this new and improved way to cook steaks. The rule about cooking a good steak at home is to do it without overcooking by hitting it with a great deal of heat very rapidly. Using a well-seasoned cast iron skillet that can go into the oven for the best success with this meal.
Just follow these instructions and you will never want to pay full price for a steak at a steakhouse again (well unless it is Ruth’s Chris steak , then maybe you’ll want to spend the extra dough). Do not limit yourself to just enjoying these steaks on special occasions. These steaks are so simple to make, you can have them (almost) every night of the year.
Make a Steakhouse Quality Steak at Home
Notes
Complete your entrée with a nice garden salad, steamed broccoli, baked potato/baked sweet potato, grilled onions and mushrooms, and dinner rolls (Dinner rolls can be omitted if you are following a low carb or Paleo lifestyle).
Ingredients
- 2 quality steaks (Ribeye, New York Strip Steak and Sirloin are the most popular cuts)
- 2 Tbsp Cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
- Steakhouse seasoning OR kosher salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the steaks by brushing both sides with cold pressed extra virgin olive oil.
- Season steaks with steak seasoning (I use Simply Organic’s Chophouse Seasoning) or simply just Kosher salt and pepper.
- Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F. Preheat a cast iron frying pan on the stove on high heat.
- Place the steak into the center of the frying pan. Do not oil the frying pan.
- Cook steak without moving it until the underside is golden brown, about 3 minutes.
- Flip the steak with the tongs.
- Using potholders/oven mitts, immediately move the pan to the oven.
- Cook steak in in the oven for 2 to 8 minutes based on your preference. 2 minutes medium rare (130 degrees F), 4 minutes medium (140 degrees F), 6 minutes for medium well(150 degrees F) and 8 minutes for well done (160 degrees F +).
- Using potholders/oven mitts, remove the steak from the oven and place it on a plate.
- Allow the steak to rest for 5 to 10 minutes. This will help to complete the cooking process.
Looks great and saves money on eating out!
Good tips!
