Happy Tuesday! Today I’m thrilled to reveal a simple and useful DIY for the home–natural home scents. I use a lot of scented oils, wax melts and candles around my house this time of year. The combination of spices, vanilla and citrus always remind me of the holidays.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I want my home to smell warm and inviting. Natural home scents are such an easy and inexpensive way to get the same results as the oils, wax melts and candles. These holiday-inspired home scents can be made from everyday pantry ingredients.

Home Scents Ideas

  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Nutmeg
  • Lemon
  • Orange
  • Apple
  • All spice
  • Nutmeg
  • Ginger
  • Cloves
  • Cardamom
  • Rosemary
  • Vanilla bean/vanilla extract

Home Scent Recipes

Creamy Lemon

1 sliced lemon (with some of the peel grated)
2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
1 tsp. vanilla

Spiced Orange

1 sliced orange (with some of the peel grated, too)
1 tbsp ground cloves or ½ cup whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks

Spiced Citrus

1/2 sliced orange (with some of the peel grated, too)
½ sliced lemon
1 tbsp ground cloves or ½ cup whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks

Apple Cinnamon

1 Apple sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp ground allspice
2 tsp ground nutmeg
2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cardamom (optional)

Pumpkin Pie Spice

2 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp ground ginger
2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cardamom (optional)

Creamy Nutmeg

2 Cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp ground nutmeg
1 tbsp vanilla or 3 whole vanilla beans
1/8 tsp ginger

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients and cover with water
  2. Pour the mixture into a slow cooker
  3. Top with more warm water as it evaporates

**Alternatively, you can put all ingredients in a jar, fill with water and place on candle warmer for a more subtle scent.
