Cause of Foot Pain

Some causes of foot pain during pregnancy, are:

  • Swelling. Leg and foot swelling that occurs as a result of hormonal imbalances, blood flow issues, reduced activity, and fluid retention.
  • Cramps. Leg cramps due to pregnancy weight gain or vitamin deficiency.
  • Varicose veins. Varicose vein due to pregnancy weight gain.
  • Toenails. During pregnancy, changes in blood flow, edema, and body weight can lead to changes in your toenails.
  • Foot Changes. During pregnancy, the feet can flatten and lengthen, due to wider gait, increased pregnancy weight, ligament laxity, and a more forward center of gravity.

Prevention

It is commonly seen that foot pain and pregnancy appear concurrently. But, if you follow a few precautionary measures, along with taking proper care of your feet then, foot pain can be avoided during your pregnancy.

These common pregnancy foot complaints are very common and can be easily prevented or decreased through traditional treatment. By providing adequate support to your feet during pregnancy, you can eliminate or reduce pain. Support your feet with stable shoes, arch supports, or prescription orthotics. You should avoid wearing shoes or socks that are too tight as this can produce ingrown toenails and blisters. Additionally, don’t trim your toenails too short.

During pregnancy, eat a healthy and well-balanced meals to supply all the nutrients you and your baby need. To improve your general health, perform regular exercise like walking. Stay hydrated by drinking adequate water, which allows your body to retain less fluid.
