Thoughts during a breastfeeding session

Becoming a “new mom” again for the fourth time earlier this summer has been both rewarding and, well, interesting. This time around, I know so much more than I did with the other three. This time around, I have also been able to breastfeed a lot longer than I did with the other kids as well.

While breastfeeding is so beneficial to both baby and mama, it can also lead to some pretty interesting thoughts during breastfeeding sessions. These thoughts are loudest in the middle of the night while everyone is sleeping except for baby and I. Here are my thoughts…

  1. What time is it?
  2. I use to come home at this hour.
  3. At one point I got up to workout at this hour.
  4. I need to workout but…sleep!
  5. When is the last time I changed the crib sheets?
  6. When is the last time I changed my sheets?
  7. I would love to sleep right now.
  8. I wonder who is on Facebook right now.
  9. Why hasn’t someone invented a breast pump that pumps while you sleep?
  10. How many ounces are considered “a stash” of breast milk?
  11. Damn this baby is gassy. She gets that from her daddy.
  12. How come her daddy can sleep through her crying?
  13. Why is it so difficult to search the Internet while breastfeeding?
  14. It’s possible to love lactation cookies more than you love your husband.
  15. How accessible are my boobs?
  16. I wonder if I can sleep sitting up while nursing?
  17. Is four, two hour “naps” between breastfeeding sessions considered a “full eight” of sleep?
  18. Should I cut my hair?
  19. What the hell is a “leap”?
  20. How come I never knew about this breastfeeding pillow with my other babies?
  21. I’m going to be the oldest mom in the PTA when this one gets in school.
  22. I wonder what she’s dreaming about when she smiles in her sleep?
  23. Is it possible to feel this much love for one baby?
  24. Does she know how much I love her?
  25. Is it time to go back to bed yet?
