Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade, vintage, unique, and digital goods. It is a platform that allows people to sell their products to a global audience. Etsy was founded in 2005 and has since become a popular destination for people looking for unique, handmade items such as jewelry, clothing, home decor, and more. Many of the products on Etsy are made using traditional craft techniques and materials, and the platform has a strong focus on sustainability and ethical production.

At the height of the pandemic I was looking for a creative outlet. I began by creating digital art and planners for myself and sharing my creations on social media. After awhile,  friends and family began inquiring how to buy it. This website is not set up for e-commerce so I decided to share my creations with the world with my own Etsy shop, Moxie Mama Co.

Here are some tips for making money on Etsy:

  1. Offer unique, high-quality products. Customers on Etsy are looking for unique, handmade, and digital items that they can’t find elsewhere. Make sure your products are well-made and stand out from the competition.
  2. Take great photos. High-quality photos can make a big difference in attracting customers to your shop. Invest in a good camera like the KODAK PIXPRO, and take the time to style and photograph your products beautifully.
  3. Use keywords in your titles and tags. When customers search for products on Etsy, they use keywords. Make sure to include relevant keywords in your product titles and tags to help your items show up in search results. The book Etsy Business – Beginners Guide To Starting Your Own Etsy Business & Learn Etsy Marketing & SEO is a good resource if you are just starting out.
  4. Promote your shop. There are many ways to promote your shop and attract customers, such as through social media, blog posts, and local events. I promote my shop on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and through this website.
  5. Offer excellent customer service. Good customer service can help you retain customers and encourage them to leave positive reviews, which can attract even more customers to your shop.
  6. Keep your prices competitive. While you want to make a profit, it’s important to keep your prices competitive with other sellers on Etsy. Consider the cost of your materials, time, and any other expenses when setting your prices.
  7. Offer promotions and discounts. Consider offering promotions and discounts to help drive sales and attract new customers. The Etsy dashboard offers great ways to offer discounts to new and existing customers.
  8. Keep your shop stocked with new items. Regularly adding new items to your shop can help keep customers coming back to see what’s new. I try to add new creations at least once a month.
  9. Use Etsy’s advertising options. Etsy offers a variety of advertising methods that can help you show your products to more potential customers.
  10. Use your “About” section wisely. Tell the story behind your business to help create a connection with your customers. A memorable origin story about your shop can boost your visibility, too.

It’s important to keep in mind that running a successful business on Etsy takes time, effort, and dedication. You’ll need to have a good product, strong marketing skills, and good customer service to attract and retain customers. Additionally, it’s important to be aware that running an Etsy business requires a financial investment, as there are fees associated with listing and selling products on the platform.
