Welcome to another edition of Wisdom Wednesday. Typically I write about virtues that we strive to become such as tolerance, integrity, and sincerity to name a few. You can read more about past Wisdom Wednesday virtues HERE. Today’s virtue, discrimination, is a little different. It is a virtue that we should all strive to avoid in an attempt to make the world a better place for all of God’s children.
The fundamental definition of discrimination is to distinguish between things and perceive that difference exist. Discrimination also classically refers to unjust treatment of people on the foundation of social distinctiveness identified by race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, age, or sexual orientation. Many Americans report confronting discrimination that hinders their livelihood. Examples include being unfairly denied a job promotion, being denied medical care, or being discouraged by an employer or teacher from advancing their education. Many deliberate forms of discrimination are banned by law. But discriminatory incidents are not only temporarily upsetting, they can also raise risk for lasting physical and psychological issues.
Everyone can work together to stop discrimination.
