probiotics

You may have noticed a lot of talk in the media or online about the importance of probiotics in our modern diets. You may have even tried a brand or two. Probiotics are the “healthy bacteria” that are found in our gastrointestinal track (also known as GI tract or gut) that aid in the digestive process.

The fine folks over at Hyperbiotics were nice enough to gift me a bottle of their PRO-15 probiotic supplement to sample and review. This is my true, unbiased opinion of their product.

Strains

Hyperbiotics PRO-15 contains 15 Broad Spectrum Strains. These strains include: L. plantarum, L. fermentum, L. acidophilus, B. infantis, L. casei, B. longum, L. rhamnosus, B. lactis, L. reuteri, L. salivarius, L. paracasei, L. gasseri, B. bifidum, B. breve, and S. thermophiles. This product has 11 of the 12 strains that I wrote about in the post: Probiotics: Food and Supplement Sources.

Bacteria Count

Hyperbiotics PRO-15 has 5 Billion Colony Forming Units (CFU’s) per BIO-tract tablet. The company claims that this is equivalent to 75 Billion CFU of a normal probiotic capsule.

Coating

Hyperbiotics uses BIO-tract protection and time-released technology for this once-a-day probiotic. According to the company, this means that when the probiotic pearl tablet gets wet by stomach fluids, the “patented gel matrix” produces a protective coating, protecting helpful probiotic organisms from the acids in the stomach. This allows them to release later in the GI tract. Once inside the GI tract, the probiotics start to distribute consistently from within the pearl’s core. It begins dispensing a powerful amount of our living organisms throughout the day and deep into the GI tract where most people need them the most.

Probiotic Activity

Due to the BIO-tract protection and time-released technology, this probiotic has a long shelf life and requires no refrigeration. Although it does need to still be stored in a cool, dry location to ensure the cultures have the best environment.  This is due in part to their patented manufacturing process known as LiveBac.

Final Thoughts

When I first opened the bottle and took out the pearls, I was a little skeptical. I am used to taking large capsules or tablets to get the maximum amount of probiotics. These pearls had a little coating on them that you could feel. I even let one sit on my tongue to see if it would stick—it didn’t. In fact, the pearl went down very easy with even a small amount of water.

Each bottle contains 60 time released micro-pearls pearls. They are 100% vegetarian, lactose-free, and gluten-free so they can be taken by even those with dietary restrictions. The directions specify that one can take one micro-pearl once a day for maintenance with or without food; or up to three times a day once per day with or without food for intense repair. I decided to start with the maintenance option and gradually moved onto intense repair as I wanted to make sure that the micro-pearls would be suitable with my GI tract.  After a day or so of taking the micro-pearls, I realized that I would not have any issues with this probiotic.

I have been taking the Hyperbiotic PRO-15 for a week. Before this product, I felt weighed down after eating a heavy meal. After taking this product for just a couple of days, I could feel a difference. These micro-pearls helped to decrease the amount of bloating that I feel after eating as well as help to control excess hunger I sometimes felt a few hours after eating. I also noticed that it has assisted in regulating my digestive system.

I would recommend this product for anyone that is feeling a little sluggish, who has been on a round of antibiotics, or who is having GI issues. You can purchase Hyperbiotic Pro-15 HERE.
