After months of tough training, I had the opportunity to get away for a couple of days to the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada. Originally, hubby and I were going to take a few days to have a nice little getaway but at the last minute, he had to stay back for work so I decided to take my teenager with me for a little girl’s getaway.

Just a quick four-hour drive from the Bay Area (two hours from Sacramento), our drive to Reno took us through the breathtaking vistas and magnificent landscapes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. I was excited to try out Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. Online, the resort touts features like eight award-winning restaurants, a newly renovated four-star spa, 60,000 sq. ft. casino, and luxurious accommodations including Reno’s only Concierge tower.

First Impressions

Once I stepped inside Atlantis Casino Resort Spa I was blown away by the magnificence of this resort. The resort is contemporary and stylish utilizing a tropical, aquatic theme throughout. They use a lot of pink, brown, and blue that works wonders at creating a lavish, exquisite atmosphere. The decor is sophisticated and comforting, with copious areas to lounge, sip on a drink, and enjoy the ambiance. When it comes to the best in budget-friendly accommodations without compromising extravagance, AAA Four Diamond/Forbes Travel Guide recommended Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, really hits the spot. I took so many pictures of the décor because it was all so uniquely and beautifully charming.

Resting

There are 824 rooms on the property providing comfort to every budget. We had the opportunity to stay in the Atlantis Concierge Tower (floors 21-25). Let me tell you, Atlantis pulled out all the stops in this tower.

Our room was located on the 24th floor and came with many great amenities. Our favorite amenities were the mountain views through the oversized windows, lounging robes, Bose stereo, personalized room attendant, free high-speed internet access, and a private floor with restricted elevator access. We also had the luxury of taking advantage of the 25th-floor Concierge Lounge which featured complimentary continental breakfast in the morning; desserts and fruits in the afternoon; and hors d’oeuvres in the evening. If you are looking for luxury, you must book a stay in this pleasantly quiet and ultra-chic tower.

Playing

Relaxing

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa 5

This recently renovated gem offers a totally restorative, holistic experience. I had the opportunity to set up an appointment at Spa Atlantis for a 60-minute Swedish Massage. After all the training for the Avon 39 that I have been doing, this was a necessity.

It was suggested I block out enough time before and after my treatment to pamper myself in the various relaxation features on hand, and boy am I glad that I did. I spent time in the Brine Inhalation-Light Therapy Lounge, Laconium Relaxation Lounge, Aqua Spa Lounge with Experiential Shower, steam room, sauna, and the high-tech showers (stocked with Aveda products) with nozzles blasting gentle streams of water from various angles. I can honestly say I did not want to leave this spa.

There is also a gorgeous indoor atrium pool where many kids and families like to hang out. Since it’s cool in early April, the outside pool was still closed for the season, but the hot tub was open. During the summer, there is an outdoor cabana bar so you can enjoy adult beverages while relaxing poolside.

Eating

When I found out I was coming to visit Atlantis, I asked Atlantis’ Communications Manager Tracie Barnthouse what makes Atlantis unique from other Reno resorts. “I think what sets Atlantis apart from other resorts in Reno is the quality of our food and beverage. The department is led by an executive corporate chef who has been with us for nearly three decades. The second in command has been here for over 25 years, and it just goes down in tenure from there. Our quality and offerings in our eight dining outlets are second to none.”

With so many on-site eateries, everyone can find something to eat at Atlantis. There were more choices than we had time to sample on our one-day visit, so we decided to try out the highly-recommended Toucan Charlie’s Buffet & Grille and Bistro Napa.

Toucan Charlie’s Buffet & Grille is a must when you come to Atlantis. Having lived near casinos (both in Biloxi and in St. Louis), I am accustomed to the large casino buffets. This buffet exceeded my expectations.  With a great selection of foods and desserts, there were many delicious options to choose. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find much since I am currently following a lower carb diet, but there was plenty of options from prime rib to Mongolian BBQ to handcrafted salads. I was so full after just a couple of trips to the buffet I had to sit back and just watch my daughter enjoy her meal(s).

My daughter— a high-school swimmer and is ALWAYS hungry—sampled just about everything that was offered and proclaimed the mashed potatoes, shrimp, and chicken were the best she had ever eaten. Then she hit up the delicious dessert spread. Be sure not to leave without getting a sampling of the cotton candy. Yum!

I cannot say enough good things about Bistro Napa. I was enthusiastically impressed with this restaurant’s impeccable service, authentically inspired cuisine, and warm ambiance.  Our waiter, Christopher, was accommodating to my dietary restrictions and offered tasty alternatives to the listed menu pairings.  The pan roasted chicken was juicy and full of flavor. My daughter ordered the Wagyu Burger and sweet potato fries and was pleasantly surprised at how delightfully tasty it was. Overall, this was a great experience and we look forward to dining here again very soon. Check this place out when you’re in Reno!

Overall, Atlantis really knows how to treat its guests like royalty. So, if you’re looking for a special weekend getaway with your love or a girl’s week-long vacation, The Atlantis is the place to come and play, eat, and relax without breaking the bank. My only regret is that I could not stay longer.  Thank You Atlantis for being so generous to me.
